If you were to ask webmasters what the goals for their web site are, I expect that you would find that many of them would like to increase the number of visitors that their web site gets. There is a simple reason for this - generally speaking, the more visitors ("traffic") that a web site gets, the more money it makes. Of course, for simply putting up a web site and hoping for traffic is unlikely to produce results - if you want traffic you have to work for it, by actively promoting your web site.
